Roy V. Craft was born on January 24, 1923. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on September 12, 1944 at the age of 21 and is now buried in Bernie Memorial Cemetery, Bernie, Stoddard County, Missouri, USA. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 2 September 1944. Private First Class Craft's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
