Tillman Tarrant entered the military service in South Carolina. He served in Company C, 371st Infantry Regiment, 93rd Division (Colored) as a Supply Sergeant during World War I. He was declared "Missing in Action" on September 28, 1918 and is commemorated on the Tablets of the Missing, Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. His name is also commemorated on the 371st Infantry Regiment monument located at Ardeuil, France but his first and last names were inscribed interchangeably.
