Claude H. Weid died on the 23rd of May, 1945 while transporting 40 wounded American soldiers and additional German POWs to Paris. His Curtiss C-46 crashed in the fields of Taillefontaine. He is buried in the same grave with the other passengers of the aircraft in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.
