Jenis C. Nielsen entered the military service in New York. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on August 31, 1944 by a shrapnel in his left eye afte the breakout from Normandy on the way to Belgium probably in the vicinity of Chateau-Thierry and is now buried in Epinal American Cemetery, Dinozé, France. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry monument in Mons, Belgium and ranked as a Sergeant.
