Andy A. Merola was born on December 5, 1923. He enlisted in the Army on March 19, 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in Company D, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on August 7, 1944 at the age of 20 and is now buried in Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry monument in Mons, Belgium and ranked as a Private.
