Abram J. Butts was born on December 11, 1916 in Mount Carmel, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Abram Harrison Butts and Emily Thomas Butts. Abam served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician Third Grade in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on July 27, 1944 and is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France. Abram received a citation for gallantry in action on the Normandy beachhead, where he carried on in the of fierce enemy shelling and gunfire. He also received another citation for gallantry in action during the invasion of Sicily. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry monument in Mons, Belgium and ranked as a Staff Sergeant.
