George Dewey Potteiger, Jr. was born on January 2, 1923. He was the son of George Dewey Potteiger and Viola Mabel Carroll Potteiger. A graduate of Hershey Industrial School, he was a printer on a Lancaster paper before his induction. George entered the service in January 1942, and trained at Camp Hood Texas, and Camp Shenango, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He participated in engagements in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and England. He died on September 4, 1944 at the age of 21 and is now buried in East Harrisburg Cemetery, Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, USA.
