Donald E. Brown was born on January 7, 1920 in Garner, Hancock County, Iowa. He was the son of Andrew J. Brown and Anna Meinecke Brown. Donald served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 745th Tank Battalion, fighting in support of the 1st Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations. Pvt Brown was killed in action on July 28, 1944, when his M-4 Sherman tank was destroyed by enemy fire near Cambernon, France. He was listed as Missing in Action. Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the remains of Pvt. Donald E. Brown were accounted for in 2018. His name is permanently inscribed on the “Walls of the Missing” at Brittany American Cemetery.
