Joseph Dickus entered the service in Indiana and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. Joseph participated in the battles for North Africa and Sicily, having served overseas for a year and a half at the time of his reported death. He was Killed in Action on August 10, 1944 and is now buried in Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
