Joseph Svojger was born on February 21, 1919 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. He was the son of Joseph Svojger and Rose Svojger. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician Fifth Grade in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on January 19, 1945 in Belgium at the age of 25 and is now buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry monument in Bullingen, Belgium and ranked as a Corporal.

Silver Star Citation:
Leaving a position of safety and crossing an area vulnerable to enemy aerial attack, Corporal Svojger placed casualties into a vehicle and at the risk of his life drove over heavily bombed roads to an aid station. Corporal Svojger’s prompt and gallant action was instrumental in preventing heavy loss of life.
