Charles Edward “Doc” Baker was born on August 3, 1922 in Hiddenite, Alexander County, North Carolina. He was the son of Howell Mansfield Baker and Mattie Mae Gilreath Baker. Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on January 17, 1945 in Belgium at the age of 22 and is now buried in Carolina Memorial Park, Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina, USA.
