PVT Loren E. Gerdes, was born on April 13, 1924 at Amorita and graduated from high school there. He was inducted into the service on July 30, 1944 at Ft. Sill OK and received his basic training at Camp Wolters TX. PVT Gerdes landed in France Jan 15, 1945 and was sent to Belgium with the First Army on a machine gun crew. He had been overseas only 2 weeks when he was killed in action Feb. 2, 1945. He is buried in Bethel Cemetery, Amorita, Alfalfa County, Oklahoma, USA.
