John Wesley �Joseph� Black was born on September 25, 1922 in Johnsonburg, Elk County, Pennsylvania. He entered active service with the U.S. Army on February 9, 1943 at Erie, Pennsylvania. John served as a Private in the Anti-Tank Company, 18th U.S. Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, United States Army during World War II. He served as a Bazooka Gunner. He died of wounds received in action in Belgium on December 23, 1944 and is now buried in Gettysburg National Cemetery, Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania, USA.
