On January 30th, 1948, at 1254, once the C-47’s wreck was confirmed, 1st Lieutenant Jack H. Ellis took off as navigator of an American SB-17, two days out from Germany, in order to overfly the area and crashed as well. The only survivor was rescued by a German POW.
