Hubert C. Widmeyer was born on September 30, 1920 in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. He was the son of Harry E. Widmeyer and Lillian C. Griffitts Duke. He attended Bowerman and Senior high schools in Springfield, MO and was employed at Heer's department store when he volunteered service in the Army in 1940.

He served in the Aleutian with the old 203rd coast artillery and was returned to the States in March, 1944. He arrived in European theater November 25. He was an infantryman in the Field Artillery of the 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on January 1, 1945 in Belgium at the age of 24 and is now buried in Springfield National Cemetery, Springfield, Greene County, Missouri, USA.
