On January 30th, 1948, at 1254, once the C-47’s wreck was confirmed, Staff Sergeant Angelo A. LaSalle took off as mechanic aboard an American SB-17, two days out from Germany, in order to overfly the area and crashed as well. After the crash, a German POW came and rescued him from the wreckage. He was the only survivor.
