Vernon W. Sandidge was born on January 11, 1925. He was the son of Walker Blaine Sandidge and Alice Victoria Byington Sandidge. Vernon served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on February 3, 1945 at the age of 20 and is now buried in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Scott County, Virginia, USA.
