Jay Middleton Smith, Jr. was born on May 5, 1917. He was the son of J. Middleton Smith and Alliene Marie Brazelton Smith. Jay served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 5th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Division. He was Killed in Action on January 13, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium at the age of 27 and is now buried in Winchester City Cemetery, Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee, USA.
