Alfred Lee Butler, III was born on September 4, 1950. He served in the United States Marine Corps as a Major. He was a liaison officer to the Lebanese armed forces. Major Butler was found dead with a gunshot wound to the chest in his quarters at the American compound at Beirut International Airport on February 9, 1984. He died from a terrorist attack. According to findagrave.com, his was cremated and his ashes was given to his family or a friend. His name is commemorated on the Beirut monument, on the grounds of the US Embassy in Lebanon and ranked as a Captain.
