Kenneth L. Ports, aged 22, was born on March 11, 1922. He was the son of Roscoe H. Ports and Ruth E. Reddick Ports. A former soccer and basketball star at Walkersville High School, from which he graduated in 1939, Lt. Ports graduated from the University of Maryland February class in 1943. While at the university, he became a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and was selected for the All-America college soccer team. He immediately enlisted in the Air Corps and transferred to the infantry when he failed to meet Air Corps requirements.

Upon graduation, he went to Officer Candidates School at Ft. Benning, Ga., where he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army, Mary 26, 1943. He trained at Fort Blanding, Fla., and was stationed in Alabama before going to Camp Joseph T. Robinson in Arkansas. His infantry command was a part of the Black Panther Division. In June, 1944, he was sent to France as an excess officer and was assigned to the 134th Infantry Regiment. He was Killed in Action on September 18, 1944 during the battle for liberation of Agincourt, France and is now buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Woodsboro, Frederick County, Maryland, USA.
