James Wylie Babbit was born on October 14, 1909 in Walsenburg, Huerfano County, Colorado. He was the son of Fenton Washington Babbitt and Minnie L. Haley Babbitt. James served in the 1330th Army Air Force Base Unit as a Master Sergeant and a Radio Operator of an aircraft. He died on March 5, 1945 at the age of 35 and is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but his rank is inscribed as W/SGT.
