Lamar A. Barnes was a B-29 Navigator during WWII, assigned to 444th Bombardment Group, 676th Bombardment Squadron. He was killed in action on 2 Sept 1944, flying aboard 42-6309. Barnes was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but his name is inscribed as Lamor. He is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA in a common grave with his crew and his name is listed on a group headstone.
