Arthur LeRoy Bartlett, aged 19, was born on March 16, 1924. He resided in Sagadahoc County, Maine prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on August 14, 1942 in Portland, Maine. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents. Arthur served as a Sergeant and Gunner on B-24D #42-40930, 425th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

Arthur was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was shot down and crashed near Hankow, China during the war. He is now buried in the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, USA in a common grave with his crew. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
