LaVern Herbert Becker was born on June 12, 1919 in Lake Orion, Oakland County, Michigan. He was the son of Maude B. Anderson Becker and Herbert C. Becker. He served in the 20th Air Force, 678 Bomb Squadron, 444 Bomb Group as a Second Lieutenant. He was a Navigator and Bombardier of an aircraft during World War II. Lavern was Killed in Action on December 7, 1944 near Mukden, Manchuria and is now buried in the Eastlawn Cemetery, Lake Orion, Oakland County, Michigan, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but his surname is inscribed as Backer and death date as 1944-1-15.
