Silas V. Brooks, aged 22, was born on April 14, 1922 in Boston, Thomas County, Georgia. He entered the military service in 1942. Silas served in the Air Corps as a Corporal and Radio Operator of an aircraft during World War II. He died in an air accident in China on July 14, 1944 and is now buried in the Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville National Historic Site, Macon County, Georgia, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
