Donald Herschel Metz, aged 26, was born on April 10, 1918 in Nazareth, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. He was graduated from Nazareth High School with the class of 1939. As a civilian, Donald was employed by the Nazareth Waist Co. He was a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Nazareth. He entered the service on March 27, 1944 then went through basic training at Camp Blanding, Fla., and was first sent to Fort George G. Meade, Md., and then shipped out from Massachusetts. Donald served in the 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on November 13, 1944 fighting Germans during the liberation of the town in Achain, France and is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-Avold, Departement de la Moselle, Lorraine, France. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion in Nazareth.
