Donald Dumont was born on June 18, 1923. He served in the 341st Bombardment Group as a Staff Sergeant and Gunner of an aircraft during World War II.

On 20 June 1945, Lt James C. Carey was piloting 11th Bomb Squadron B-25J #43-27807 on a mission to attack and destroy multiple bridges in IndoChina (Vietnam). Lt Fred M. Carey was his Co-Pilot, and his brother. In the course of performing a low-level bomb run, the aircraft appeared to go out of control and crash near the target, a railroad bridge at Quang Tri, IndoChina. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.

He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but his surname is inscribed as Dument.
