Eli N. Fredette was born on April 19, 1921 in Vermont. He resided in Rutland County, Vermont prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on September 19, 1942 in Rutland, Vermont. He was noted as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents.Eli served as a Technician Fifth Grade, Company A, 3841st Quartermaster Truck Company, 478th Quartermaster Battalion, U.S. Army during World War II.

He was flying, possibly as a Crew member, to pickup or drop off equipment on C-47A #43-15783 which was assigned to the the 11th Squadron, 3rd Combat Cargo Group, U.S. Army Air Force. Eli was "Killed In Action" when the C-47 he was on was shot down and crashed near Mogaung, China during the war. He is now buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, New York, USA in a common grave with his crew.

Eli was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
