Bartholomew P. Giacalone was born on January 25, 1921. He was the son of Paolo Giacalone and Maria Grimaldi Giacalone. He served in the US Air Forces as a Private First Class and Assistant Radio Operator of an aircraft during World War II. Bartholomew died on January 31, 1944 at the age of 23 and is now buried in the Saint James Cemetery and Mausoleum, Woodbridge, Middlesex County, New Jersey, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
