John Colcord Gordon was born in 1923. He served in the 2nd Troop Carrier Squadron, 443rd Troop Carrier Group as a First Lieutenant and Pilot of of C-46D Commando #44-78094 during World War II. John was killed in the crash of the transport plane, due to engine failure, reportedly 27 miles north of Shingbwiyang, Burma. He is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA in a common grave with SSGT Theodore C. Sisak. He also has a cenotaph located in Oakdale Memorial Park, Glendora, Los Angeles County, California.

John was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
