Ralph H. Groff, Jr. was born on November 30, 1921 in Colorado. He served in the 678th Bomber Squadron, 444th Bomber Group, Very Heavy as a Sergeant and Senior Gunner of an aircraft during World War II. Sergeant Groff perished when the U.S. Army Air Corps B-29-10-BW Superfortress #42-6323, nicknamed "Eileen" crashed and burned in India. All eleven crewmembers were killed. He is now buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
