George E. Hankison was born on October 16, 1923. He enlisted for pilot training in October, 1942 but after completing primary flight school, he was assigned to radio. Assignment to the Troop Transport Command was followed by transfer to the Combat Squadron on the Burma-China run. He was killed in a flight with the Combat Cargo Squadron over "The Hump" from Burma to China on August 4, 1945. He is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA. Georhe was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
