Captain Edward W. Higgins Jr. was the pilot of a C-46A . The Curtiss C-46 Commando is a transport aircraft derived from the Curtiss CW-20 pressurized high-altitude airliner. The aircraft departed from Chabua, India heading toward Kumming, China.

This report does not state reason for crash of aircraft on 2/26/1944. The wreckage was reported to have been found in India. The three man crew and three of the 21 passengers perished in this crash. He is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA in a common grave with his crew and three of the 21 passengers.

Edward was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
