Reese Hunter, Jr. was born on December 17, 1923. He was the son of Reese Hunter and Lila Morrison Orr Hunter. He served in the US Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant and Radio Operator on a Liberator bomber during World War II. He was Missing in Action on August 9, 1944 over China but was prseumed dead on February 25, 1946. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery #03, Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina an in the Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia. Reese was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
