Louis Kne was born on June 17, 1918. He was the son of Frank Kne and Mary Tomasic Kne. Ssgt kne was killed by Japanese bullets, while flying as tail gunner on a B-24 Bomber with the US 14th Army Air Force in the China-India-Burma theatre, in the Province of Hopeh China, Aug. 24, 1943. He had just shot down a Japanese plane in flames when the Japanese tail gunner shot back while going down catching the Chisholm gunner. Mortally wounded the latter gave his oxygen mask to an uninjured mate, whose airline had been severed by a Japanese bullet. He is now buried in the Calvary Cemetery, Chisholm, St. Louis County, Minnesota, USA. His name is also listed on the Veteran's Memorial Tablet of Chisholm in Minnesota.

Ssgt Kne was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
