Gordon Lovell was born on September 5, 1920. He served in the Air Transport Command as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. Gordon died on June 16, 1944 at the age of 23 and is now buried in the Abbot Village Cemetery, Abbot Village, Piscataquis County, Maine, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
