William died on February 23, 1944 at the age of 27 in Myanmar and is now buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth, Portsmouth City, Virginia, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945.
