William B. Mixon was born on July 11, 1916 in Portsmouth City, Virginia. He served in the US Army Air Forces as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. William died on February 23, 1944 at the age of 27 in Myanmar and is now buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth, Portsmouth City, Virginia, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1944-02-22.
