Robert K. Nelson was born on December 10, 1920. He served in the 490th Bomber Squadron, 341st Bomber Group, Medium as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He was Killed In Action over Burma, returning from a bombing and strafing mission of a Japanese held jungle target, when his aircraft, operating on a single engine, crashed in poor weather. Four other men perished. He is now buried in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA. 2Lt Nelson was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
