Clarence Zelore “Sonny” Snyder was born on March 21, 1918 in Asotin County, Washington. He was the son of Clarence Hoten Snyder and Bessie Rose Horak Snyder. He served in the US Air Corps as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He died on March 21, 1945 at the age of 27 in China and is now buried in the Vineland Cemetery, Clarkston, Asotin County, Washington, USA. 1Lt Snyder was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1944-08-27 and ranked as a Second Lieutenant.
