Sumpter Edward Reed was born on November 10, 1892 in Chester, Tyler County, Texas. He was the son of Omer Pather Reed and Sarah Augustus Canon Reed. Sumpter served in the 304th Quartermaster Wagon Company as a Private First Class during World War I. He died on October 14, 1918 in France at the age of 25 and is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
