Clarence Henry Thurston was born on April 29, 1925 in Sanford, Seminole County, Florida. He was the son of Henry Johnson Thurston and Emmeline M. Burdge Thurston. He served in the 678th Bomber Squadron, 444th Bomber Group, Very Heavy as a Corporal and Gunner of an aircraft during World War II. He died on December 7, 1944 at the age of 19 and is now buried in the Oaklawn Memorial Park, Lake Mary, Seminole County, Florida, USA.

Cpl Thurston was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
