John P. Toler entered the military service in Louisiana. He served in the 491st Bombardment Squadron, 341st Bombardment Group, Medium as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He was declared "Missing in Action" on March 5, 1944 and is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. 1Lt Toler was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945.
