Allen Robert Turner was born on May 24, 1920 in Ohio. On July 17, 1945, 1Lt Turner, a member of the 1330 Army Air Force Base Unit, Air Transport Command, was the pilot of a C-109 aircraft, en route from Jorhat, India, to Hsinching, China, over “The Hump,” when the aircraft crashed in a remote area. All four passengers were declared deceased after an extensive search effort failed to identify the crash site (July 18, 1946; std 1 yr + 1 day later).

Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the remains of 1st Lt. Allen R. Turner were accounted for in 2018. His name is permanently inscribed on the “Walls of the Missing” at Manila American Cemetery. He is now interred at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, Hampden County, Massachusetts.

1Lt Turner was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
