Gerald Franklin Woods was born on January 10, 1922 in Caney, Montgomery County, Kansas. He was the son of Elmer Lester Woods and Flora Ethel Grimes Woods. He served in the US Army Air Forces as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He died on September 15, 1943 at the age of 21 and is now buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA. Ssgt Woods was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
