Thomas H. Aston was born on June 23, 1918 in Beadling, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He served with the 26th Fighter Squadron, 51st Fighter Group, United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Lieutenant Thomas Aston was one of the original volunteers flying with Claire Chennault's famous outfit, the "Flying Tigers." He was killed in action fighting the Japanese while flying a P-40 Warhawk over Kunming, China. He was interred in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on November 4, 1947.

1Lt Aston was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
