Samuel Castillo was born on November 4, 1920 in Oklahoma. He was the son of Ignacio Castillo and Antonia Maria Romero Castillo. He served in the US Air Corps as a Sergeant during World War II. He died on February 20, 1944 in India. His remains were returned from Kalaikunda, India, and interred at Golden Gate National Cemetery on 21 June 1948.
Sgt Castillo was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
