John Shiels Crall was born on September 10, 1919 in San Diego County, California. He was the son of Herbert David Crall and Leonora Alison Shiels Crall. 1st Lt Crall was the Pilot of B-24J #42-73064, assigned to the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 9th Bombardment Squadron. The plane crashed taking off from Pandaveswar airbase in India on a bombing mission, and all aboard were killed. He is now buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA.

1Lt Crall was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
