Maurice J. Dewey was born on May 22, 1921. He served in the US Air Corps as a First Lieutenant during World War II. On a low level sweep of railroad traffic and bridges along the Tientsin-Shanghai railroad near Tuhsien, China, a B25 Mitchell bomber was shot down by ground fire while making a run on a locomotive. All the crew was lost (including First Lieutenant Dewey). He is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
