George Wilson Hazlett was born on May 13, 1913 in West Deer Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of George Gilmore Hazlett and Grace Gault Hazlett. George Wilson served as a Major in the 16th Pursuit Squadron, United States Army Air Forces during World War II. He served in the 10th Air Force in India and in the 14th Air Force in China in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He was killed in action on August 6, 1943 at Karachi, Pakistan and is now buried in the Gettysburg National Cemetery, Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania, USA.
Maj Hazlett was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
