Charles E. Pero was born on February 28, 1917 in New York. He was the son of Clifford Pero and Mabel Carter Pero. He served as a Gunner on B-24 #43-73245 that was shot down and crashed near Rangoon, Myanmar (Burma) during World War II. He is now buried in the Chenango Valley Cemetery, Binghamton, Broome County, New York, USA. Sgt Pero was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
